Ealing Roadworks: 21 Road Closures, 108 Sets of Works

Ealing Council publishes a list of planned street works every week, and the list for the week commencing 6 August 2026 runs to 108 separate sets of works. Of those, 75 were already in progress and 33 were proposed, 21 involve closing a road completely, five close a lane and forty put the traffic under signal control. Twenty-two are the council’s own highway works. Fourteen are HS2.

Most of those entries will be gone within a fortnight. This page concentrates on the ones that will not: the schemes with end dates in October, December, next April and, in two cases, 2028 and 2030. Those are the ones worth planning around.

The works that outlast the week

Two of these need a word of explanation.

Old Oak Common Lane is not really a roadworks entry, it is a construction site with a road running through it. Six separate HS2 permits sit on that one street in the current list, the oldest opened in July 2022, and the latest end date on any of them is 31 December 2028. Anyone driving between East Acton and Park Royal should assume signal control on that road for the rest of the decade rather than checking week by week.

Badminton Close in Northolt is the only long-term full closure in the borough. It has been shut for HS2 enabling works since 3 March 2026 and the council lists it as closed until 2 April 2027.

There is one longer entry still. Friary Road in Acton carries a temporary pedestrian crossing under a temporary structure licence, with two-way signals, and the council’s list gives its end date as 31 December 2030. Dates that far out are usually a licence expiry rather than a real programme, but it is on the record as it stands.

What is closed right now

Of the 21 full closures on the current list, most are short utility jobs of a few days. The ones with real duration are Badminton Close in Northolt, Oldfield Lane South in Greenford, closed for SSE mains replacement until 9 October, and Leeland Road in West Ealing, closed by the council until 26 September. Trinity Road in Southall has been closed by the council since 16 April and is listed to 29 August.

On the red routes, Transport for London’s own feed shows a contraflow on the A406 Hanger Lane at the junction of Madeley Road for utility works, running from 12 to 18 August 2026, with traffic reported as flowing well.

The four routes that carry the borough

Roadworks come and go. These do not, and knowing how they behave is more useful than any weekly list.

• A40 Western Avenue runs the full width of the borough, past Northolt, Greenford and Perivale, and it is the fast route in and out. It is a Transport for London red route, so TfL rather than Ealing Council controls what happens on it.
• A406 North Circular and the Hanger Lane gyratory is where the A40 meets the North Circular, in W5. It is also a red route. Anything that happens here backs up onto the A40 within minutes, which is why a minor utility contraflow at Madeley Road is worth knowing about.
• Uxbridge Road is the long east-west local street through Acton, Ealing, West Ealing, Hanwell and Southall. It carries most of the borough’s bus services, and it is the road most often dug up: it appears in the current works list at Southall with a lane closure listed to 31 December 2026.
• Boston Road and the Hanwell corridor is the north-south link down to Brentford and the M4. The council’s own improvement works there run to 31 December 2026.

Before you drive

Every road in Ealing sits inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone. The zone covers all London boroughs, the charge is £12.50 a day for a non-compliant car, van or motorcycle, and it applies 24 hours a day, every day except Christmas Day. Check your vehicle before you assume it is exempt, because the charge is per day, not per journey.

For the works themselves, the council’s own weekly list is the primary source and it is a free PDF: Planned road and street works by Ealing Council and utility companies. It is updated weekly, it names the street, the ward, the contractor, the permit number and a contact number for each job, and it states plainly that minor repairs and emergency works carried out at short notice will not be listed. That last line matters: the list is a plan, not a live picture.

What it means for you

If you drive across the borough, the practical reading of the current list is that the Southall and West Ealing ends have the most disruption booked into the autumn: The Broadway, Lady Margaret Road and Uxbridge Road in Southall, Argyle Road and Leeland Road in West Ealing.

If you live in Northolt or East Acton, the HS2 works are the constant. Neither Badminton Close nor Old Oak Common Lane will be clear this year.

If you are commuting, the trains are unaffected by any of this. Ealing Broadway still reaches Paddington in ten minutes and the Elizabeth line runs to Heathrow in twenty-two, which on most mornings beats the A40.
