Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November 2026. Ealing, Greenford and Southall each hold a service, all silent at 11am. Times, places and the parade route.
Remembrance Sunday this year is Sunday 8 November 2026, and Ealing borough marks it in three places, not one: Ealing War Memorial on Ealing Green, Greenford War Memorial and Southall War Memorial. All three hold the two-minute silence at 11am. Southall starts gathering at 10.45am.
Ealing Council has not yet published its 2026 details. On 6 September its events calendar read “There are currently no events” for every month of the autumn, and the Greenford Royal British Legion branch page still had last year’s date on it. What follows is the pattern the council has itemised in the same words for three years running, with each year labelled, plus the parade route as the Scouts who march in it were given it.
The three services
| Where | Gather | Silence | Who leads it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ealing War Memorial, Ealing Green, in front of Pitzhanger Manor | Council does not publish a form-up time | 11am | Mayor of Ealing, with the King’s representative |
| Greenford War Memorial, Oldfield Lane South | Parade forms up outside the Royal British Legion club | 11am | Greenford branch, Royal British Legion |
| Southall War Memorial, The Green | 10.45am | 11am | Followed by a short ceremony at St John’s Church |
That three-service shape is the council’s own, given identically in its previews for 2023, 2024 and 2025: “3 key, traditional events being held on the morning in Southall, Greenford and Ealing”.
Ealing Green
The council calls this the largest of the three. In 2025 the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Anthony Kelly, attended “a parade and ceremony at Ealing War Memorial on Ealing Green, in front of Pitzhanger Manor, with a 2-minute silence at 11am”, alongside the King’s representative, Deputy Lieutenant Richard Kornicki, and the council leader Peter Mason. The memorial itself is a wall of names rather than a cenotaph or a cross.
One wrinkle worth knowing before you set off. The council’s previews always name Ealing Green, but its own write-up after the 2024 event described “a ceremony outside Ealing Town Hall” attended by the same people (Around Ealing, 11 November 2024). The Town Hall is on New Broadway, a few minutes’ walk north of the Green. The war memorial on Ealing Green is the constant in every preview, so that is where to go unless the council says otherwise this year.
Greenford
Greenford is the one with a march. The Royal British Legion’s Greenford branch parades from its club at 182 Oldfield Lane South, UB6 9JS to the war memorial for a public service at 11am.
The route is not published by the council, but the district Scouts, who are invited to march, were given it in full. In 2021 the parade formed up outside the Legion club at 10.15am and moved off at 10.25am, then:
- Along Oldfield Lane South.
- Left into Costons Lane.
- Right onto Greenford Road.
- Right onto Ruislip Road at the traffic lights, into Greenford Broadway.
- Right into the Greenford Hall car park, through it and out.
- Right onto Oldfield Lane South, forming up facing the war memorial and Greenford Hall.
The service was estimated to start at 10.50am and the parade to finish back at the club at about 11.45am to 12noon (Greenford and District Scouts). That is a 2021 document and the timings are the Scouts’ own, so treat them as the shape of the morning rather than this year’s schedule. Nobody has published a road closure order for it, and the parade marches on the carriageway, so expect short rolling holds on Oldfield Lane South and Greenford Broadway rather than a full closure.
Southall
People gather at 10.45am at the Southall War Memorial for a service that includes the silence at 11am, then are invited to St John’s Church, Church Avenue for a short ceremony and refreshments. The Southall memorial is a cenotaph modelled on the one in Whitehall.
Two small inconsistencies in the council’s own previews: it placed the memorial “in Manor Park” in 2023 and at “The Green, Southall” in 2024 and 2025, and it gave St John’s address as Church Road in 2023 and Church Avenue since. The church is on Church Avenue, Southall Green.
Why there is nothing in Acton or Hanwell
This is the question the borough’s own history answers, and it surprises people. Acton and Hanwell have no town war memorial at all. After the First World War both towns debated how to remember their dead and decided to spend the money raised on their cottage hospitals instead, adding new wings rather than putting up a monument. The hospitals are long gone (Around Ealing).
So the borough’s three memorial services are at Greenford, Southall and Ealing, and that is not an oversight. Smaller memorials do exist inside buildings, including a cross at St Martin’s Church in Acton and a soldier statue raised for Featherstone Road School in Southall, and Ealing Central Library holds books listing the local war dead town by town. Two further memorials in the area are not part of the civic morning: the Polish Air Force Memorial next to RAF Northolt, unveiled in 1948 and rededicated in the 1990s, and the Katyn Memorial at Gunnersbury Cemetery, unveiled in 1976.
Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November
Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day are two different days. Armistice Day is always 11 November, which in 2026 is a Wednesday. The council has previously invited the public to join the Mayor outside Ealing Town Hall for the two-minute silence at 11am on Armistice Day itself, and did so in both 2023 and 2024. Nothing is announced for 2026.
Is it definitely on, and when will the details land?
Yes, on the evidence. The same three services have run every year the council has written about them, and they are organised by the Royal British Legion and local churches rather than by an events budget that can be cut.
What is not confirmed is anything specific to 2026: no start time for the Ealing parade, no confirmation of which dignitaries attend, no Armistice Day arrangement. The council’s own announcement has landed on 9 October (in 2024), 7 November (2023) and 6 November (2025), so anywhere from five weeks to three days ahead.
Be careful with one source in the meantime. The Royal British Legion’s Greenford branch page is still last year’s: it says “This year, Remembrance Sunday is Sunday 9th November 2025” and advertises Armed Forces Day at the club “on 28th June 2025” (britishlegion.org.uk). It also describes Remembrance Sunday as “the second Sunday in November”, which is a rule of thumb rather than the rule. The day is the Sunday nearest 11 November. Both happen to give the same answer in 2026, because 8 November is both.
Getting there
Ealing Green is a seven-minute walk south from Ealing Broadway station, past Walpole Park. Greenford War Memorial and the Legion club are on Oldfield Lane South, close to Greenford station on the Central line and the Greenford branch line. Southall’s memorial is on The Green, a short walk from Southall station on the Elizabeth line.
Sunday controlled parking hours vary by street across the borough, and the roads around Ealing Green and Greenford Broadway both carry restrictions, so check parking in Ealing before driving, and roadworks and travel for anything on the route that morning.
